Call for Special Sessions

IEEE ETFA 2022 will include special sessions within the scope of the conference. Special sessions should have a clear focus and may cover new or emerging topics that are not sufficiently covered by the regular tracks, such as new technical trends and breakthroughs.

Organization of special sessions

If you would like to organize a special session, please prepare a proposal using this template and send it in PDF format to Special Session Co-Chairs, Thilo Sauter (thilo.sauter@tuwien.ac.at), Lucia Lo Bella (lucialobello99@gmail.com), and Tullio Facchinetti (tullfacc@unipv.it). Please note the important dates below.

Rules for organization of special sessions

An individual can be a co-organizer of up to two special sessions. Special sessions are aimed at bringing together researchers from different institutions and countries. For this reason, it is recommended not to submit proposals with organizers from a single institution or from a single country.

Once a proposal has been approved, organizers must:

  • Prepare a Call for Papers using this template.
  • Publicize the special session and attract quality papers among researchers and practitioners. If the number of papers submitted to the Special Session is less than 6, the papers already submitted will be distributed to the regular tracks for the review process, and the Special Session will not be included in the program.

Papers submitted to special sessions will undergo the same review process as regular papers. The special session chairs of the respective special session are responsible for organizing a peer-review process, ensuring that at least 3 review reports per paper are received. In order to be part of the ETFA 2022 program, a number of 4 regular papers should be accepted after the review process. If the number of accepted papers is less than 4, the corresponding accepted papers will be moved to a regular track, and the Special Session will not be included in the program.

Conflict of Interest (CoI)
Before starting the review process, organizers must declare papers that present a CoI for them. A CoI arises in situations where the judgment of a paper quality cannot be ensured solely on the basis of the technical content of the paper. In practice, Special Session organizers are asked not to nominate reviewers for their own paper or for an author from the same academic institution or a co-organizer of the same SS. To ensure independent reviews, these conflicts must be marked as such in the submission system and Special Session Co-Chairs notified so that they can arrange the reviews of such papers.
